Dr. Chris Stansbury is Our 2025 Volunteer of the Year

We couldn’t think of a more meaningful way to close out National Volunteer Week than by recognizing someone who truly embodies the spirit of service.

Dr. Chris Stansbury, a highly respected optometrist and longtime volunteer, has been named WV Health Right’s 2025 Volunteer of the Year!

With a career spanning private practice, surgical co-management, and leadership roles, Dr. Stansbury co-founded West Virginia Eye Consultants in 2011, growing it from a single location with two doctors and one employee to six locations, 12 doctors, and more than 100 employees today.

In addition to his impressive clinical career, Dr. Stansbury helped WV Health Right launch the annual WV RAM Clinic (now known as #WeCareWV Day) in 2016, expanding access to vital health services for thousands across the state.

Dr. Stansbury’s clinical excellence is matched only by his compassion. As a dedicated volunteer, his service has profoundly impacted our patients and our mission.

Dr. Stansbury lives in Charleston with his wife, Amber, and their sons, Grant and Reed.

Learn more about how you can join Dr. Stansbury at #WeCareWV Day and honor him by becoming a sponsor for the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

Honoring Dr. Clark Adkins

On April 17, WV Health Right held a memorial ceremony honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Clark Adkins, where we reflected on his decades of volunteer service, his contributions to our Board of Directors, and his enduring legacy. Joined by his family, friends, and colleagues, we heard moving tributes from the community, including Mrs. Robin Adkins, Board President Ryan Lindsay, Dr. Greg Rosencrance, and Dr. Paul Legg. During the event, a plaque was unveiled in his honor marking the opening of our newly named Dr. Clark Adkins Procedure Room. We’re so grateful to all who attended and joined us in celebrating Dr. Adkins’ life of devoted service.

Celebrating National Volunteer Week

Every year during National Volunteer Week (April 20–26), we recognize the impact of our Medical & Dental Volunteers and our Volunteers with Heart—folks who help us deliver vital care across the region. Their dedication is what drives our mission, and we’re always looking for more hearts and hands to join us. Whether you’re a healthcare professional or simply eager to give back, there’s a meaningful role for you here. Now’s the perfect time to get involved!

Our volunteers bring our mission to life each day. Thank you for making a difference!
