WeCareWV Day returns with more good to share
On October 18th, we hosted our second annual #WeCareWV Day at our East End Clinic, and it was an extraordinary day of community care! We’re deeply moved by the amount of support we received and the dedication of our team. We were honored to serve over 500 patients.
Thanks to our incredible sponsors, donors, and over 200 volunteers—together, we made a huge impact:
- 100 vision patients
- 135 dental patients
- 216 medical patients
- 60 flu vaccines administered
- Over 500 total patients reached
Save the date for next year! Join us on October 17, 2026!
October marks so much health awareness recognition on the calendar each year, and we’ve been busy showing support this month across several areas:

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, WV Health Right Free Clinic / WVRX and YWCA Charleston partnered to share survivor stories, discuss how rapid rehousing works, and connect community members in need of support.

That same week, we also recognized National Pharmacy Week and our pharmacy technicians as well as our on-site pharmacist, Jack Whitley. Did you know our pharmacy team fills around 350 prescriptions daily? We’re so grateful to them for all the work they do for our patients!

We celebrated Medical Assistants & Support Staff Recognition Week (October 20-24, 2025) with lots of gratitude for our dedicated MA’s and support staff who work so hard to provide critical care to our community, day in and day out.

October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we were proud to provide a CAMC Mammography Unit at #WeCareWV Day this year. If you haven’t scheduled your routine mammogram yet, this is your friendly reminder!

Sharing Our Winning Grant Writing Formula on a National Stage
WV Health Right continues to be a leader nationally among Free & Charitable clinics. Once again, our staff presented at the annual National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics Symposium, held this past month in Denver. Brandi O’Dell and Adam Cunningham shared lessons learned from our nonstop grant writing work. They are now shaping how clinics across the nation tell their story and secure financial resources to sustain their critical missions.

Mobile Teaching Kitchen Events
Our Mobile Teaching Kitchen was out and about this month, providing hands-on nutrition education and healthy cooking demonstrations!
On October 4th, we were at the Clarksburg Farmers Market in Harrison County, where our team showed the crowd how to make smart but tasty food choices. On October 16th, we partnered with Mountaineer Food Bank’s mobile Produce Choice Market and West Virginia State University to provide cooking demonstrations on the campus in Institute. On October 22nd, we traveled to Smithers and whipped up a healthy lunch for those at the Gateway Center. The Green Goddess wrap and tomato soup were a huge hit, and we made sure to share our signature recipe cards with each meal.
If you’re interested in helping us support a healthier community, consider becoming a sponsor for the Mobile Teaching Kitchen’s future events!

Line Dancing with Luci
Every Thursday from 6–7pm, Luci leads Line Dancing at the WVHR CommUNITY Wellness Center! Join us for a bootscootin’ good time, fun tunes, and a moderate aerobic exercise. Classes are taught for all levels of learners, and all are welcome!

Thank you #WeCareWV Day Volunteers!
We are immensely grateful for our team of volunteers who made #WeCare WV Day such an incredible success! Whether they were greeting patients, fitting them for eyeglasses, or any of the other critical duties, they showed up and represented our mission in full force.
We’re looking forward to celebrating them along with our Volunteer of the Year, Dr. Chris Stansbury, who led Vision Care for #WeCare WV Day, at our upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on December 7th. Please consider joining us or showing your support with a sponsorship!
There are so many ways you can give to WV Health Right as we provide vital and lifesaving healthcare to low-income, uninsured, underinsured, and underserved adults throughout West Virginia.
