#WeCareWV Day returns with more good to share

Our free, pop-up health clinic day is just around the corner, and this year we’re adding even more services to help our neighbors. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, we’re offering free medical, dental, vision, and, for the first time, audiology care at our Charleston East End Clinic. The CAMC Mobile Mammography Unit will be onsite to offer free screenings alongside our Mobile Dental and Medical Clinics. Our Mobile Teaching Kitchen will be there to show how to make easy, healthy meals at home.

This one-day clinic is for anyone who needs it. No ID required, no questions asked. If you or someone you know could benefit from seeing a medical professional, but are unsure how to pay for it, please come to #WeCareWV Day

And if you’re looking to give, we are still looking for sponsors and volunteers. Learn more at our website.

We’re grateful for our #WeCareWV Day sponsors

Larry and Lisa Pack understand that when folks can see a doctor, visit a dentist, or put on a pair of glasses, they can work, raise their children, and move forward with confidence. As returning Presenting Sponsors of #WeCareWV Day, their gift makes it possible for our volunteers and staff to provide free care to hundreds who would otherwise go without.

We are so grateful to Larry and Lisa and are always inspired by their commitment to faith, family, and service to West Virginia. Because of their generosity and vision for a healthier West Virginia, #WeCareWV Day continues to bring people together and show what’s possible when we care for one another.

We marked Addiction Recovery Professionals Day with special guest speaker

To help us mark National Addiction Professionals Day, we welcomed Dr. Stephen Loyd, who was recently appointed as Director of the West Virginia Office of Drug Control Policy, to come speak during our staff meeting on Sept. 9. As an internal medicine and addiction medicine physician, Loyd brought his medical expertise to the conversation as well as his lived experience. He’s been in recovery from opioid and benzodiazepine addiction since 2004. Dr. Loyd is a powerful expert in his field and such a great example that recovery is not only possible, but so is thriving in life!

We’re also proud to recognize the critical work that our peer recovery coaches, Janis Moss and Clifton Belcher, do to support community members on their recovery journey. We know that recovery can be a winding path, but we are committed to making sure people aren’t alone on their journey.

Prepped to Serve enters second year with new cohort

Our accelerated food service training program with Chef Paul Smith, Prepped to Serve Appalachia, returns with a new class starting Oct. 7. Since its launch a year ago, the program has already succeeded in helping 40 graduates gain employment in restaurants across the region. But we couldn’t do it without our stellar partners: the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and BridgeValley Community and Technical College. And we’re excited to announce that Jobs & Hope West Virginia is joining as a partner for our newest cohort to help support people in recovery who are entering our program.

Wednesday support groups are here to help

Whether you struggle with anger management or have lost a loved one and are looking for people who understand your grief, we’ve got a support group to assist. Every Wednesday at 4 p.m., our CommUNITY Wellness Center hosts a support group with the groups rotating week to week. To see when your group will meet next, visit our Facebook page. There, we’ll post the Wellness Center’s schedule every month.

Providing oral healthcare and promoting good nutrition

Our Mobile Dental Clinic and Mobile Teaching Kitchen crews had a great time at the Clay County Golden Delicious Festival! We offered free dental screenings and healthy cooking demonstrations.
