Pharmacy & Mobile Units serve flood-impacted counties
Less than 24 hours after deadly flood waters swept through North Central West Virginia on July 21, our pharmacy began providing immediate assistance to residents in Lewis, Pleasants, and Upshur counties, offering them a one-month supply of any medications or diabetic supplies that they might have lost.
We’re supporting anyone in need, regardless of income or insurance status. If you know of someone who could use our help, call our Clinical Manager at 304-414-5922.

Our Mobile Clinic and Mobile Teaching Kitchen also traveled to Weston, one of the most severely impacted areas, a week after the floods, where we distributed 800 hygiene kits and provided medical care to 25 people. Our Teaching Kitchen got to cooking and served up 250 meals throughout the day.
“We’re holding everyone affected by the flooding in our hearts and praying for their safety and recovery,” said Dr. Angie Settle, CEO of WVHR.
“We hope this support brings some measure of relief to those facing a terrible situation.”

Our Mobile Dental Clinic Welcomes a new Team Member
Our dental patients across southern West Virginia will soon get to meet our newest team member, Dr. Brianna Hodak.
As a recent graduate of West Virginia University’s School of Dentistry, she’s been able to provide care to rural communities both here in the state and even around the world. “One of the topics I am most passionate about is reducing barriers to healthcare in resource-reduced regions of the world, including Appalachia,” Hodak said.
We’re excited to team up with her in continuing our mission to bring critical dental care to the hardworking folks of West Virginia. Welcome aboard, Dr. Hodak!

Stay Safe in the Sun
July is UV Safety Month, reminding us of the importance of daily skin protection in these dog days of summer.
But if you follow these Sunscreen ABC’s you can decrease your chances of serious problems later on:
A = Apply sunscreen generously
B = Broad spectrum protection
C = Cover up with hats, sunglasses and protective clothing

Now Accepting Sponsors, Volunteers for #WeCareWV Day
With thousands of West Virginians losing their health insurance this year, we expect lines like we’ve never seen before for our free pop-up health clinic in October.
But with your help, we can make sure everyone who shows up for our #WeCareWV Day October 17 gets the medical, dental, and vision care they deserve.
You can register to volunteer today or consider sponsoring this year’s event. Large and small donations have started arriving, but we still have a ways to go to reach our goal.

CommUNITY Wellness Center hosts two meal prep classes
We’ve been cooking up a storm of healthy meals on Charleston’s West Side, teaching folks how to make flavorful meals with little fuss.
Dr. Shayla Leftridge taught two meal prep classes in July (and she’s even sharing one of her recipes below).
One class even covered three versatile ways to make healthy meals out of chicken breast, including stealthy chicken salad and a garlic rosemary chicken with roasted broccoli.
Keep an eye on the CommUNITY Wellness Center’s schedule to see when the next class is coming your way.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Zesty Cowboy Butter Chicken Skewers
This recipe only takes about 30 minutes, but results in a tender and flavorful protein that can easily be paired with a fresh salad or grain for a delicious dinner any night of the week.
Plan Your Future Gift
Your gift doesn’t have to be now.
If you believe that the hundreds of thousands of West Virginians who are medically vulnerable, uninsured, and underinsured deserve healthcare, too, then consider one of our several planned giving options.
