Final call for sponsors, volunteers for #WeCareWV Day

We’re a few weeks away from our third annual pop-up clinic, and we expect more patients to walk through our doors than ever before.

It’s not too late to support the health needs of your neighbors, whether by sponsoring the event or rolling up your sleeves and giving of your time.

We need all sponsors and volunteers to register by Oct. 1 to ensure everyone receives a T-shirt and that all of our sponsors make it on this year’s shirt.

And if you, or someone you know, is putting off a medical, dental or vision check up because there’s no way to pay for it, then please don’t hesitate to come on down to our Charleston East End Clinic Saturday, Oct. 17. We’ll be on site all day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please spread the word.

There’s a lot to celebrate this month

We celebrated our very own disease detective, Epidemiologist David Pauley, for World Epidemiology Day. He’s focused on improving health outcomes for our community, and we’re so grateful to have him on our team.

September also marked National Recovery Month, and we have two people worthy of praise. Our Peer Recovery Coaches Clifton Belcher and Joey Ryan show up to our recovery groups, leading with heart and honesty. Thank you both for everything you do. ❤️

Our Prepped to Serve program hits double digits

We’re excited to welcome our 10th Prepped to Serve cohort into our teaching kitchen starting Oct. 6 for our accelerated food service training program led by Chef Paul Smith, West Virginia’s first James Beard Award winner.

Over the course of three months, 10 motivated West Virginians will be front of house or food prep ready to find new employment in the restaurant industry.

It’s not too late to sign up. Learn more about the program here.

A Dose of Hope Recovery Group brings healing without judgment

Because there isn’t a “one-size-fits all” approach to recovery, our Dose of Hope Recovery Group doesn’t have a list of requirements in order to participate. You don’t even have to be sober to join our free, monthly gathering.

Led by peers and facilitated by licensed counselor Krista Neophytou, MA, LPC, we meet every third Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at our CommUNITY Wellness Center.

Mexican Street Corn

Even on a cold day, our Mexican Street Corn recipe can make you feel like you’re south of the border lounging in the warm sun. Using simple ingredients, this recipe is surprisingly easy to bring to life.
