City of Charleston Shows Support for Prepped to Serve
Our current Prepped to Serve Appalachia cohort received a special visitor earlier this month. Charleston Mayor Amy Goodwin strapped on an apron and rolled up her sleeves alongside our students during one of Chef Paul Smith’s training sessions in our test kitchen Feb. 3. The City of Charleston is helping to ensure more West Virginians can participate in the life-changing program thanks to a generous $45,000 grant from some of the city’s opioid settlement funds. This is our seventh cohort to participate in the accelerated food-service program. More than 40 people have been able to secure jobs in restaurants across the region since graduating from the program.

“Through Prepped to Serve Appalachia, West Virginia Health Right and Chef Paul Smith combine hands-on workforce training with recovery support, an approach that plays a critical role in long-term recovery and reflects the practical, people-centered use of Opioid Settlement Grant funding,” said Mayor Goodwin.
